ABOUT THE WORK

Look at it. That single white star on a field of red, white, and blue. You know it. You’ve always known it.

The lone star of the Puerto Rican flag is one of the most powerful symbols in the Caribbean — and one of the most deeply felt. It was designed as a declaration: that Puerto Rico was a people, a culture, an identity that could not be dissolved by history or circumstance. That star has been worn with pride, banned by law, reclaimed in defiance, and carried in the hearts of Puerto Ricans across every generation and every mile of diaspora. It has meant different things at different moments — but beneath all of it, one truth has never changed: we are here. We exist. Look at us.

ROBGALAR’s "LA ESTRELLA DE MIS NOCHES“ is an invitation and a declaration at once. It speaks directly to the viewer: look — not just at the star, but at what the star carries. The history of a people who refused to disappear. The culture that was built, generation by generation, under that single point of light. The identity it anchors for every Puerto Rican, whether they live steps from el Morro or thousands of miles from the island, whether they were born on its shores or inherited it through blood and memory and the stories passed down at the kitchen table.

The star is also a guide. In moments of displacement, of doubt, of distance — it has always been there, pointing back toward something essential. Toward home. Toward who you are when everything else falls away. Toward the island, the people, and the unbroken thread of a culture that has survived everything history has thrown at it.

This work is for every Puerto Rican who has ever looked at that star and felt something beyond words. Pride, yes — but also belonging, and resilience, and a love so deep it lives in the body before it reaches the mind. And for the collector who understands that a single symbol, rendered with intention and power, can hold an entire world inside it.

Available in six sizes — from the intimate 12”×18” to the monumental 40”×60” — this work brings the weight and the light of that star into any space. In its largest format, it commands a room with unmistakable, unapologetic presence — exactly as that flag has always commanded attention, respect, and pride.

Printed on premium FSC-certified sustainable materials, each canvas delivers vibrant color and sharp detail built to last for decades. The pinewood frame and included mounting hardware make it ready to hang from the moment it arrives.
