ABOUT THE WORK
There is a moment every Puerto Rican knows by heart — even if no one planned it.
It’s that instant when work can wait, the heat is pressing in, and someone says the magic words: “¿Vamos a la playa un rato?” — Want to go to the beach for a bit? And just like that, the world stops. The hot asphalt gives way to fine sand, the noise of the city dissolves into the sound of the waves, and the blue of the Caribbean — that blue that exists nowhere else on earth — fills everything.
ROBGALAR captures in this work that unpretentious, unplanned moment that defines life on the island: the beach not as a destination, but as an everyday refuge. The transparent water revealing the coral beneath. The palms leaning with the breeze. The Caribbean sun breaking into a thousand flashes across the surface of the sea. A composition that smells like sunscreen and saltwater, that feels like sand between your fingers, that transports you straight to that magical shore that only Puerto Rico has.
For the Puerto Rican diaspora, Necesito Un Rato en la Playa is the cure for nostalgia — that beach that is always there in memory, ready to bring calm when the northern winter closes in or when the distance weighs too heavily. For those discovering Puerto Rico through art, it is an irresistible invitation: how could you not want to go to a place where even a quick trip to the beach becomes a memory you carry for the rest of your life?
Available in six sizes — from the intimate 12”×16” to the monumental 40”×60” — this work transforms any space into a window onto the Caribbean. The vertical format frames the scene like a living postcard, an open invitation to dream.
Printed on premium FSC-certified sustainable materials, each canvas delivers vibrant color and sharp detail built to last for decades. The pinewood frame and included mounting hardware make it ready to hang from the moment it arrives.
